Welcome to the Age of Aeternus Community

Age of Aeternus is a companion app for tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs), operated by NerdHonest LLC ("we," "our," or "us"). Our community is built on creativity, collaboration and mutual respect. These Community Guidelines set the standards of behavior we expect from everyone who uses Age of Aeternus (the "Service," as defined in our Terms of Service).

These Guidelines are part of our Terms of Service. If you break them, we may act under this document and the Terms of Service.

This is an 18+ community. You must be at least 18 years old and have reached the age of majority where you live. Everyone is expected to behave as a mature adult.

Our Core Values

1. Respect

Treat every community member with dignity and respect, whatever their background, identity or playstyle.

2. Creativity

Express yourself creatively while respecting other people's boundaries and comfort.

3. Collaboration

Support fellow players and contribute positively to shared experiences.

4. Safety

Help keep the Service a place where everyone can enjoy playing.

Where These Guidelines Apply

These Guidelines apply to everything you create, share or send through the Service, including:

  • your profile (display name, username, photo, bio and profile song);
  • characters, notes and anything you share with a party;
  • homebrew you publish, and the ratings and reviews you leave on other people's homebrew;
  • party names and descriptions, maps, tokens, art and other uploads;
  • whispers you send to other party members on the virtual tabletop; and
  • friend requests and party invites.

Content Standards

Acceptable Content

In the context of TTRPG storytelling and character creation, the following are generally acceptable:

Narrative elements:

  • Fantasy violence in a storytelling context
  • Morally complex characters and storylines
  • Dark themes explored thoughtfully, with appropriate content warnings
  • Mature themes handled with nuance and respect

Creative content:

  • Original character concepts and backstories
  • Homebrew rules and modifications
  • Fan art and creative writing you have the right to share
  • Game session notes and recaps

AI-Generated Content

You may use AI tools to help create content for Age of Aeternus (for example, character backstories, artwork or descriptions) on these conditions:

  1. Disclosure: say when content is substantially AI-generated, especially when you share it publicly or with a party.
  2. Rights: you must have the right to use and share the AI-generated content, including under the AI tool's terms.
  3. Compliance: AI-generated content must follow every other rule in these Guidelines.
  4. No deception: don't present AI-generated content as entirely your own work when seeking feedback, credit or recognition.

For example: using AI to help draft a backstory is fine, but mention it if asked. Using AI art for your character portrait is fine, but don't claim you drew it. Using AI to edit your own writing is generally fine without disclosure.

We may label AI-generated content, remove AI-generated content that breaks these Guidelines, and act against users who repeatedly present AI content as human-made.

Prohibited Content

The following content is not allowed. The categories show how seriously we treat each kind of violation.

Category A: Most Serious

  • Illegal content: any content that violates applicable law
  • Child sexual abuse material: any sexual content involving minors, real or fictional. We report child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), as U.S. law requires
  • Non-consensual intimate imagery: sharing intimate or sexual images of a real person without their consent, including images that are AI-generated or edited
  • Terrorism: promoting or glorifying terrorist acts
  • Doxxing: sharing someone's private information without their consent
  • Threats: credible threats of violence against anyone

Category B: Severe

  • Hate speech: content attacking people based on protected characteristics such as race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability
  • Harassment: targeted harassment, bullying or intimidation
  • Sexual harassment: unwanted sexual content or advances
  • Graphic violence: gratuitous violence outside a narrative context
  • Gore or shock content: content designed only to disturb

Category C: Moderate

  • Spam: unsolicited promotion or repetitive content
  • Impersonation: pretending to be another user or a public figure
  • Misinformation: deliberately spreading false information
  • Trolling: deliberately disrupting other people's play or community spaces
  • Exploits: sharing or using exploits to gain an unfair advantage
  • Copyright infringement: posting material you don't have the right to share (see our DMCA Policy)

Category D: Minor

  • Off-topic content: persistent off-topic posting in shared spaces
  • Excessive profanity: adult language is allowed, but excessive or targeted profanity is not
  • Low-quality content: content that adds nothing to the community

Behavior Standards

In Parties

Do:

  • Communicate clearly and respectfully
  • Honor your commitments to your party
  • Give credit for other people's contributions
  • Use content warnings for sensitive themes
  • Respect different playstyles and preferences

Don't:

  • Abandon a party without notice
  • Monopolize shared resources
  • Pressure others into situations they are uncomfortable with
  • Share party content outside the party without permission
  • Discriminate against other players

With Friends, Invites and Whispers

Do:

  • Accept that not everyone wants to connect
  • Respect boundaries when someone sets them

Don't:

  • Send unwanted sexual or abusive whispers
  • Keep sending friend requests or party invites to someone who has declined or blocked you
  • Use friend requests, invites or whispers to harass anyone

General Conduct

  • Be honest in your interactions
  • Take responsibility for your actions
  • Report problems instead of retaliating
  • Give others the benefit of the doubt
  • Remember there's a person behind every account

TTRPG-Specific Guidelines

Character Content

Your characters may explore complex themes, but:

  • don't create characters designed only to offend;
  • don't use characters to harass real people;
  • keep sexual character content private; and
  • take care with characters based on real people.

Mature Themes in Storytelling

TTRPG storytelling may include mature themes. When it does:

Content warnings:

  • Use content warnings for potentially distressing material
  • Respect requests for content warnings
  • Be willing to adjust content in shared spaces

Consent in collaborative play:

  • Agree on boundaries before playing mature content
  • Respect "fade to black" requests
  • Check in when themes become intense

Never appropriate, even in fiction:

  • Sexualization of minors
  • Torture written as sexual content
  • Real-world atrocities used for shock value
  • Content targeting real individuals

Reporting

How to Report

In the app: look for the flag icon or the Report option.

  • Published homebrew: open the item's menu and choose Report.
  • Reviews: open the review's options and choose Report.
  • Profiles: use the flag icon on the profile.
  • Parties: use the flag icon on the party.

Choose the category that fits best: Inappropriate Content (NSFW), Harassment / Bullying, Copyright Violation, Spam, or Other. For reviews, the categories are Spam or Promotions, Inappropriate Content, Harassment, Misleading, Off-topic, or Other. Add details where you can; they help us review faster.

By email: some things can't be reported in the app yet, such as whispers. Use email for those, for sensitive matters, or if the in-app report isn't working: support@nerdhonest.com. Include:

  • your username;
  • the username of the person you are reporting, or the name of the content;
  • what happened and when; and
  • screenshots, if you have them.

Copyright: to report copyright infringement, follow our DMCA Policy. A copyright notice needs specific legal statements that an in-app report doesn't include.

What Happens After You Report

  1. Acknowledgement. When you report in the app and your account email is verified, we email you an automatic confirmation from support@nerdhonest.com. To limit abuse, we send at most 5 of these a day to each reporter.
  2. Review. A person on our team reviews the report. We aim to review reports within 7 days.
  3. Decision. We decide whether the content or behavior breaks these Guidelines or the law, and what to do about it (see "Enforcement" below).
  4. Outcome. We tell the person whose content we acted on, in the app. We aim to tell you the outcome in the app as well.

Confidentiality

  • We don't tell the reported user who reported them.
  • We don't share the details of our review publicly.
  • Retaliating against someone for reporting is a violation of these Guidelines.

False Reports

Knowingly filing false reports is a violation of these Guidelines.

If You Are in Danger

Reporting in the app is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services (911 in the U.S.). See "Safety Resources" below.

Enforcement

How We Moderate

  • People make the decisions. Reports are reviewed and decided by people on our team. We don't use automated tools to decide whether content breaks these Guidelines.
  • Content published to everyone (for example, homebrew in the public browser) may be reviewed before or after it appears.
  • Party content isn't pre-reviewed. We don't pre-review content shared inside a party, such as homebrew, notes, maps and other items, so party members can use it straight away. We still act on reports about party content, and we remove illegal content wherever it is, including in parties (for example, child sexual abuse material, credible threats, doxxing and non-consensual intimate imagery). Party members can report content, block other users and leave a party at any time.
  • Copyright is handled under our DMCA Policy. Its repeat-infringer rule disables an account automatically when the account reaches 3 copyright strikes within 12 months. Each strike follows a notice our team has reviewed.

What We May Do

Depending on the violation and the circumstances, we may:

  • remove published homebrew or a review, or disable access to it;
  • send a warning;
  • restrict access to some features;
  • suspend an account for a period; or
  • terminate (permanently disable) an account.

When we remove a review, it disappears from public view, and we keep a copy that only our team can see. If an appeal succeeds, we restore the review from that copy. We delete the copy after 180 days.

For profiles and parties, our usual response is a warning, and we may ask you to change the content. We remove illegal content wherever it is. Our moderation tools can remove published homebrew and reviews directly; other content, such as content inside a party or on a profile, our team removes by hand, which can take longer. We may report content to law enforcement where the law requires it or where someone's safety is at risk.

Our response depends on the category of the violation, how serious it is, whether it is repeated, whether it targets vulnerable people, and whether it was an honest mistake. We may skip steps for serious violations: a Category A violation can lead straight to termination.

Notices of Our Decisions

When we remove content or warn you after a report, we tell you in the app. Our notice states:

  • what we acted on: a removal notice names the item where it has a name, or says it was one of your reviews, and a warning says it concerns content you posted that was reported;
  • the reason, as one of these grounds: inappropriate content, harassment, copyright, spam, misleading content, off-topic content, or another Community Guidelines issue;
  • that a person on our team made the decision; and
  • how to appeal.

If you want more detail about a decision, email support@nerdhonest.com.

Users in the EU can also use the other ways to seek redress listed under "EU Users" below.

Appeals

If you disagree with a decision about your content or account, or with how we handled your report, you can appeal.

  • How: email support@nerdhonest.com within 30 days of the decision. Include your username, the date of the decision, what it concerned, and why you think it was wrong.
  • Who reviews it: a person on our team. Where possible, it will be a different person from the one who made the original decision.
  • What can be appealed: any decision under these Guidelines. No category is excluded.
  • Copyright removals are different: if your content was removed after a copyright notice, send a counter-notice under our DMCA Policy instead of an appeal.
  • Outcome: we will tell you the result. If we find we got it wrong, we will undo the decision where we can, for example by reinstating content we removed.

EU Users (Digital Services Act)

  • Notices of illegal content: besides the in-app report, you can send a notice of content you believe is illegal to legal@nerdhonest.com. Our DMCA Policy lists what a notice should include. When you send a notice by email, we confirm that we received it, and we tell you our decision by email.
  • Statement of reasons: when we restrict content or an account, our notice gives the reasons described in "Notices of Our Decisions" above.
  • Appeals: see "Appeals" above. You can also complain to the Digital Services Coordinator in your Member State, or go to court.
  • Point of contact: our single point of contact for users and for Member State authorities, the European Commission and the European Board for Digital Services is legal@nerdhonest.com. You can write to us in English.

Safety Tools

  • Block: blocking someone removes your friend connection and any pending friend requests between you, and stops friend requests, party invites and whispers between you.
  • Report: see "Reporting" above.
  • Profile visibility: your profile is hidden from Discover and community search unless you turn on Appear in community directory in Profile Settings. People who already know your exact username can still send you friend requests and party invites.

Safety Resources

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.

Crisis resources:

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (U.S.): call or text 988, or chat at 988lifeline.org
  • Crisis Text Line (U.S.): text HOME to 741741
  • Outside the U.S.: the International Association for Suicide Prevention lists crisis centres at iasp.info

Updates to These Guidelines

We may update these Guidelines to address new situations or make them clearer. When we do, we will change the "Last Updated" date. Section 17 of the Terms of Service explains how changes work: they apply going forward only, and we will tell you in advance about material changes.

Questions

If you have questions about these Guidelines, email support@nerdhonest.com.

Summary
